Website Upgrade in Progress

Shipmates, you may be alarmed to see the old site gone. We have decided to upgrade to a wordpress format website. This is far easier to manage for us, as well as better looking. A lot of stuff is still under construction, but here are some of the planned features:

  1. New Weekend College and Public Education course database and management. This will mean that you will get automatic confirmations when you register for a course.
  2. Integration with WOW II. This will allow us to lock out certain parts of the website to the public, specifically our meeting minutes.
  3. Paypal integration. Dues, CoW tickets, PE and First Aid courses can be paid for through Paypal instead of having to write checks. Courses that are paid for in advance will see more turnout.
  4. Better ways for the public to contact us – the public will be able to register for courses, contact a vessel examiner, request a program visitor, and ask for an Auxiliary presence at an event through the site.
  5. Informational pages. There will be links to pertinent national sites in different categories. For example, the uniform page will have instructions on assembling each uniform type and where to purchase everything. The Operations page will have links for the boat crew program, air crew, etc.
  6. Paperwork will become simpler as we will host online versions of the 7030 form and directly link to the e7029 form.
  7. A history page that documents past flotilla leadership, members who have passes, and past winners of the Commodore Al Lewis Award.
  8. A flotilla blog that any elected or staff officer may post in. Members may subscribe to this blog and get news updates to their email inbox.  There will also be comments which will allow for online discussion.

I hope you all enjoy – both I and Darryl will demonstrate the features once they are completed (hopefully by the March flotilla meeting).

Have a good one,
